PLANNING: CREATING PROPS

In class today we wanted to try and give the film opening some realism and get props that we can use during the filming process. Firstly we decided to gather up some articles on AI including an article from Max Tegmark which includes information about his book 'Life 3.0'. We are going to include these in places throughout our film opening.  We then designed an article of our own which we will also use in our production.We did this to create one of the office scenes of our production.

We also then came up with our own company logo, that i created, so that we add a brand into it as well.

For us it is important that we can present the progress of Artificial intelligence throughout our film and we are going to be doing this by presenting Max Tegmark' book 'Life 3.0' and how the robot has read it and understood the aspects of how AI could become rogue. 

 We then decided to take some shots of ourselves as the group of 'Robotica' workers. We wanted to show the presence of a confident and slightly cocky group of worker and therefore unaware that the robot can actually be a liability and come out of control. In this we used the stance of us workers to display this act of confidence and cockiness. 

 After we did this I then thought it would be a good idea to create a template for a 'checklist' which we could put on the plastic bag of the robot before we reveal him.

On this template I included the logo, that I created, in the bottom right corner and also a 'stamp', that I also created, using Photoshop. For this I created the outline of the stamp and got the image of the workers from Robotica (which is shown above in this post) and edited it so i just had the outline. I then put it into the outline of the stamp adding some text to make it look realistic as if it has been taken out of a lab. Not only did I create this to use on this template but also to use on any other files that we might need.

PLANNING: TREATMENT

An independent inventor, Luke, works for a company called Robotica. The company has been experimenting with artificial intelligence (AI). Toni, Luke’s work colleague, is working with Luke on the project. The pair of them wanted to enhance the robots technology and after being told by the CEO of the company not to take the robot home, the two employees disobey him and sneak the robot out of the Robotica HQ and take it back to Luke’s home.Once they have the robot at home they discuss how the robot is 'just a robot' and couldn't do anything to harm them when they try and enhance its technology. However they quickly find out that this robot is very clever and has read over 50 books in under 40 hours, understanding more about himself and other robots technology. After playing around with the technology, the two workers and the robot sit down at the dinner table to eat. However it doesn't go to plan because when Toni goes to grab some cheese, Rick (the robot) grabs the knife and attempts to stab Toni, narrowly missing and htting the table in between his fingers.

PLANNING: THE TOP LINE AND BIG QUESTION

Research

 I have watched this presentation by Frank Ash and understood what audiences want and how important the Top Line and Big Question is. Frank Ash, who is a creative consultant from the BBC Academy, started by talking about the Top line and Big Question and later went on to talk about what the audiences want.
Frank made the point that when making your production you have to work out what you as an audience member might want from a story and claimed you should think as a member of an audience when making this and discuss what main universal themes or ideas you want to convey, that connect us as humans together. If you could do this then it would be good as the audience would be able to relate to the main message that you are portraying meaning that the audience can really understand the production better and almost put themselves in the story. This comes under the idea of social trends.
He finally states that if you can go into filming something with answers to these questions then you are in a much better position as you will have the confidence so you can make the right decisions whilst filming to make sure your film has the right elements needed to make it as compelling as possible.

Whilst looking at social trends I noticed that Artificial Intelligence was a current topic, in media, that many people were interested in especially the relation between humans and AI and how we stop AI from going 'rogue'.  This interested me and wanted this to be the front idea and main aim of our production to display how AI could go 'rogue'

The Top Line definition is: Think about your favourite book or film or any 'good story' that you have recently watched, could you sum up its narrative into 'one elegant sentence' to provide its 'toppling'. For us the top line will be one sentence which sums up the narrative and main aims that it presents.
The Big Question definition is: What was its big story, and how important was it to your appreciation of the text. For us the big question will be what the main story/ aim is of our production 

Our Production

Top Line: An inventor who works for a highly identified company 'Robotica' creates the newest display of technology in the form of AI (Artificial Intelligence). Himself with another inventor took the robot home to enhance the technology however, it all goes horribly wrong.

Big Question:  Is this the start of AI take over?
